Our visit to DOMOTEX asia/CHINAFLOOR Shanghai

Sumatra Weave had the chance to visit DOMOTEX Asia/CHINA FLOOR exhibition which took place from 20-22 March 2018 at Shanghai New International Expo Center, China.

During the exhibition, we spent great times introducing abaca fiber carpet to suppliers and manufacturers, making and interacting with our new friends, gaining knowledge on carpet and flooring, and learning about new carpet manufacturing technologies. It was a fruitful and knowledgable trip.

Although there were 5 halls of carpet exhibition, only 1 hall exhibited carpet suppliers and manufacturers. Among more than 100 exhibitors, only 15-20 exhibitors supplied natural plant fiber carpet. Nonetheless, none of them were exhibiting abaca fiber carpet, most of the natural plant fiber carpets were jute and sisal.

Abaca fiber is indeed, still an obscure material to the public and even to the carpet making industry. For instance, Sumatra Weave is the only factory in Indonesia that uses Abaca fiber to weave carpets. By participating in this expo, we had the chance to introduce abaca and handwoven abaca carpet to our fellow carpet makers. In addition, we took advantage of this trip to visit interior design firms in Shanghai. Read more about this in our upcoming post!
